2016 Toyota RAV4 to be Offered in Hybrid Model

As the company that brings you the Prius, it should come as no surprise to anyone that Toyota offers an extensive lineup of hybrids, currently composed of seven different models. In the near future, however, that number will increase to eight, when the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid hits the market. At an estimated 33 mpg combined, the RAV4 hybrid brings together fuel efficiency and power, and we at Roseville Toyota are very excited about the perks of this new hybrid offering.

The 2016 RAV4 Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine and a small high-torque electric motor. Combined, those give you 194 horsepower and 206 lb-ft of total system torque, and the ability to accelerate from zero to 60 in 8.1 seconds. The hybrid also comes equipped with an Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel-Drive System with intelligence (AWD-i). An independent electric motor drives the rear wheels when needed to help you maintain optimal traction in all conditions.

Looking to travel for short distances on battery power alone? You can do just that in the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid. Hit the EV Mode switch,  and travel to your destination at spees up to 25 mph. It may be slow, but EV Mode is a great way to save gas if you’re just popping down the street.

When you’re not driving in EV Mode, the 2016 RAV4 uses regenerative braking to make sure the battery is always charged. Regenerative braking changes the electric motor to a generator, capturing the kinetic energy of the still-turning wheels when the brake is applied. It then stores the energy in the nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery pack.

If technology and safety are what you’re looking for, the RAV4 Hybrid has that to offer as well. All Toyota hybrid models feature a gauge cluster with a TFT screen to display pertinent vehicle information, including a diagram helping you to drive your vehicle as efficiently as possible. But the 2016 RAV4 is one of Toyota’s first US models to incorporate the Toyota Safety Sense suite, which includes all of the latest safety technology available, including blind-spot monitoring.

We hope you’re as excited about the new addition to our hybrid lineup as we are. Contact us or stop by the dealership today for more information on the RAV4 Hybrid or to test-drive any of our hybrid models today.
